The properties of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) are innumerable for health. A group of scientists led by Walla'a A. Osman of the University of Cairo have found that Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) has anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic qualities.
The combined use of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) and ibuprofen has anti-inflammatory properties superior to the use of both products separately, according to the study published in the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases.
Researchers at the University of Cairo have compared the analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory action of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). For this, they did an experiment with mice, in which one group was administered both combined elements and another group of mice were administered only ibuprofen. The scientists found that the protective and beneficial effects on health were higher in the control group in which the combination of the drug and Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) had been used.
For this purpose, male Swiss albino mice were used, which were given a dose of 8 ml/kg of body weight of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), and its comparison with ibuprofen, as an individual pharmacological therapy, and in combination with two different doses of ibuprofen (therapeutic dose, 100 mg/kg and low dose, 40 kg/mg), in different groups of mice.
Subsequently, 132 male Swiss albino mice, which were used in the experiment, were examined and the results were conclusive: the researchers found that significant protection occurred in all treated groups; however, the combination of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) with ibuprofen in its therapeutic dose showed superiority over the two compounds when used separately.
This discovery is another step in the scientific evidence endorsed by numerous studies of the anti-inflammatory properties of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), so it has even been compared with a natural ibuprofen. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) contains a substance called oleocanthal, responsible for the tickling that produces a good Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) in the throat. This substance has the same effectiveness as anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs such as ibuprofen, but without its contraindications, since it acts by inhibiting pro-inflammatory enzymes.
