  • New sustainable measure: Reduction of plastic in our packaging for tin cans.

It is a fact than plastic and PET has many uses also for industrial purpose but it has some environmental consequences (waste treatment, resistance to degradation…) which we should avoid.

According to the UN Environment Programme, the production of plastic during the early 2000s was bigger in a single decade that during the previous 40 years. Nowadays, we produce worldwide about 300 million tonnes of plastic waste every year, which is similar to the weight of all the human population in the world.

Unfortunately, this waste can remain in the environment for centuries and most plastic items never fully disappear, they just get smaller and smaller and many of them are swallowed by farm animals or fish who mistake them for food, and thus can find their way onto our dinner plates.

Taking into consideration this important issue, Torres y Ribelles wants to contribute by reducing as much as possible the plastic in our production process and from now on, we will transport the olive oil in tins in a cartoon case instead of a shrink-wrap tray as we were doing.

There is not any Spanish or European law that force us to do it but this is another initiative that we are convince to set to protect the environment.

Other measures that we develop in our facilities recently to protect the environment were the following ones:

  • Installation of photovoltaic panels to save a consumption per month of 25 %.
  • Insulation of our office and factory to cause energy savings.
  • Implementation of LED lighting in all installation to reduce the consumption of energy.
