The risks of bad diet during the confinement period.

The worldwide-affected pandemic caused by COVID-19 may have other health consequences in the short term for people who are forced to be in solidarity confinement at home.

This change on diet, with a lack of physical activity and a compulsive increase in meals every day will cause problems among the population with high risk of some chronic diseases.

The Professor of Immunology who works in the Department of Health Sciences, University of Jaén (UJA), José Juan Gaforio, recognizes that virgin olive oil is a perfect ally against bacterial and viral infections, among its many benefits, since it increases the number of cells involved in the defensive process of our body, providing greater resistance to external pathogens.

In statements from Gaforio: "A good diet can help improve the immune system in order to defend against the various viruses; the Mediterranean Diet is the greatest ally to have a proper metabolism to fight infections in general.”

A Healthy kitchen with vegetables

Dark vegetables as broccoli, spanich, chard, peas, carrots, pumpkins as well as fruits such as blueberries, blackberries, kiwis, oranges, papaya, pomegranate, mango, avocado and strawberries are among the most recommended to strengthen the immune system and prevent infections

Do not forget vitamin C with rich citrus to create a healthy immune environment!.

All of this can be included in nuts, oily fish (mackerel, sardines, swordfish, anchovy), as well as red meats (beef, ox, lamb...) which are rich in iron and B vitamins.

Finally, remember that B vitamins deficiency could be a problem under infection situations and would also affect the neurological system. Poultry meat is also recommended, and all forms of eggs are advisable since they are high biological value protein with the necessary amino acids necessary for immunity.
