Food plays an important role to improve performance but also to avoid injuries during sports practice.

A study carried out by researchers from the University of Valladolid in Spain between 69 amateur marathoners who ran the Rock'n'Roll Madrid Marathon in April 2016 shows that the intake of the Olive oil during at least the week before helps to reduce cardiac stress.

According to the data obtained in this study, runners should prioritize the intake of olive oil over butter as a source of fat, and fish over meat as a source of protein. To complete the diet, runners should prioritize the intake of fruits, cereals, and potatoes or legumes should be included as sources of carbohydrates. These suggestions will ensure full glycogen stores to reduce muscle injuries.

It is well known that olive oil is a healthy product but it also plays an important role in the diet of an athlete, which makes it different from the other edible vegetable oils.
