PUMPKIN BUÑUELOS (FRIED DOUGH BALLS)
Today we want to introduce you to a delicious treat for your palate, one which will delight it with its exquisite sweet and savoury flavours. Pumpkin buñuelos are simple to make, scrumptious and suitable for all ages. From now on, you will be able to make these mouthwatering snacks for yourself, and though this recipe uses pumpkin, you can use pulped fruit or sweet potatoes instead.
Preparation:
First of all, we need to boil the pumpkin flesh (peeled and without seeds) in a saucepan with enough water to cover the pumpkin completely. Leave it to boil for approximately 15 minutes, or until it is very soft. When the pumpkin is cooked, drain it well.
Next, add the 50g of sugar to the pumpkin and blend it until you have a purée. Beat the egg and add it in, together with the aniseed, if desired. The next step is to incorporate the flour gradually, having mixed it with the baking powder beforehand. It is better to do add the flour gradually, so that it does not form lumps in the mixture. Stir well until you have an even dough, and then divide it into ball shapes.
Leave the dough at room temperature while you heat the oil in a large saucepan. When the oil is hot, throw in the dough balls and let them fry until they turn a golden colour. At this point, remove them, drain them and place them on some kitchen paper to absorb some of the excess oil. You can then coat the buñuelos in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon, for the finishing touch. Serve hot.
