  • Spain is the largest producer of olive oil in the world in 2021

The world production of olive oil will reach 3.197.000 tonnes in the 2020/21 season, which means 0,31% less than the previous campaign, according to the capacity carried out by the International Olive Oil Council.

This capacity details that Spain will produce up to 1.596.000 Tonnes, which represents 49,92% of the world’s production.

Greece and Italy will share the second and third position reaching 265.000 and 255.000 tonnes It is important to note that Spanish production is three times larger than the sum of both countries.

Regarding other Mediterranean countries:

  • The production in Turkey was 6,6 % shorter than the previous campaign with 210.000 Tonnes and Morocco has an estimated production is at 160,000 tonnes (but only 5% of world production).
  • Tunisia will have around 120.000 tonnes, which means a 65,71 % less than the last campaign and Syrian figures will be very similar to Tunisian ones, reaching 115.000 Tonnes.

Closing the group of the eight largest producers, we find Portugal which reaches 100.000 tonnes.

According to this capacity, these eight largest producers will contribute 88,24% of the world olive oil production next campaign.
