A HOME-MADE REMEDY FOR PSORIASIS

Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease which occurs when skin cells accumulate on the surface of the skin. This accumulation of cells forms patches of thick, inflamed skin with whitish flakes on the surface. These blotchy patches tend to form in places like the scalp, the elbows and the knees, provoking an intense itchiness. Psoriasis can be genetically inherited or caused by stress, alcohol abuse, smoking, the use of certain medicines or prolonged exposure to the sun, amongst other possible causes.

The natural remedy that we propose can be very useful for combating symptoms of psoriasis since it hydrates the skin and reduces inflammation and flaking of the skin. It is very simple to make -you just have to peel 2 cloves of garlic, chop them finely and mix them with extra virgin olive oil. With the help of a cotton pad, rub the mixture over the affected areas, massaging them gently with the fingertips, until the skin has absorbed most of the olive oil. Do not dilute the mixture with water and let it act for as long as possible. This process can be repeated 2-3 times per day.

Garlic possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties which will reduce the swelling of the skin, while also preventing it from becoming infected. What's more, extra virgin olive oil is fantastic for hydrating the skin and preventing dryness.

When psoriasis occurs on the scalp, it is recommended to apply lukewarm extra virgin olive oil by massaging it into the scalp and then to wrap a towel around the head for 1-2 hours. In this way, we can eliminate the flakes from the scalp so that any medicine we apply may penetrate the blotches of inflamed skin. If we try to eliminate these flakes with a more aggressive form of treatment, the skin may break and develop an infection.
