Olive oil and the human genetic expression

Olive oil is the main fat source of the Mediterranean Diet, one of the healthiest diets in the world according to several scientific researches that have investigated this diet and olive oil, proving that both of them provide with benefits against cardiovascular diseases, chronic diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders and metabolic syndrome.

Due to the great progress made on nourishment and medic fields and the so named omics technologies (studies on totality or the group of something like genes, living organisms of an ecosystem, proteins, or even a way of characterising the molecular markers and the mechanisms that could be found behind the health benefits that nutraceutics like olive oil or the Mediterranean Diet have, something unimaginable time ago, since the mechanisms or devices necessary for it did not exist.

A relatively recent publishment(link), shows that the first tests gathered through omincs technologies affirm that olive oil and Mediterranean Diet perform particular effects on organism molecules which alter the human genetic expression and metabolic function.

The facts revealed by the omics technologies (OMICS), show how olive oil has a regulating function on the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, liver and pancreas), this function in particular is carried out by phenols (olive oil compound), besides, these influences the inflammatory and vascular cells at the systemic cellular level. What we have commented can be noticed, not only on the OMICS' facts, but also it is possible to see the important role olive oil plays on human genes expression as anti-inflammatory and inmunitary modulation agent, affecting both antioxidant and detoxifying genes in the body.

Having said that, we can claim we are engaging a new era in which these mentioned new technologies (still immmature) and those to be discovered will show us great information which will be useful to know which foods provide us with more benefits and thus being able to have a more than healthy alimentation and getting a greater longevity.
